Notes in Motion

Synopsis:

“The gesture of the body and the sound of music take precedence over words.” In the 18th century, the Sun King founded the Academy of Music and Dance at Versailles. In June 2013, the Malandain Ballet Biarritz company presented its latest challenge there: a choreography with live music performed by the Basque Symphony Orchestra. Two neighboring countries, two Basque cities, and two artistic disciplines come together in a common cultural project: Sergei Prokofiev’s Cinderella.

The documentary follows the preparation of this new work, from the conception of the idea to its premiere at Versailles. Through this journey through time, we learn about the creative process as well as the daily lives of these dancers and musicians who work in the two companies. It’s about experiencing an adventure following the daily life of creating a ballet company and a symphony orchestra from the inside, from the side unknown to the viewer, the human side. In this way, we will navigate the dreams, worries, and difficulties of these artists whose work conveys unforgettable emotions.

Aesthetics, beauty, and elegance blend into a human puzzle where the passion for vocation and the perseverance of effort come to life in this documentary.
